Councillors' aim for new Banking Hub in Saddleworth
7th of March, 2024
Working hard to bring banking back to the businesses and residents of Saddleworth via a local Banking Hub
Post Office data shows that, since 2015, Oldham East and Saddleworth has lost 75% of its banking facilities, with more banks planned for closure. On top of this, the removal of ATMs has left residents with limited options to withdraw cash.
Saddleworth now has no banks at all, meaning that its 25,000 residents and businesses have to rely on the limited banking resources provided by local Post Office branches – or travel into Oldham town centre.
Bringing back banking to the people of Saddleworth is an urgent requirement which is why SPC is exploring the possibility of setting up a local Banking Hub to provide businesses and residents with full banking facilities – on their doorstep.
Commissioned by LINK (the ATM people) and operated by the Post Office in partnership with major high street providers, Banking Hubs make it easier to do banking face to face, whoever people bank with. People can also meet their bank face to face, with representatives from the various banks available on different days, offering in-person help with banking enquiries.
We’ll be bringing you more news on progress of a possible Banking Hub in Saddleworth. In the meantime, you can find out more about Banking Hubs at https://www.postoffice.co.uk/bankinghubs and https://www.link.co.uk/help/banking-hubs-help/
